Effective Date: 7 October 2026
Version: 1.0
Company: 3rip Technologies Ltd.
Platform: 3rip
Website: 3rip.org
Contact: info@3rip.org
1. Purpose
At 3rip, we understand that plans can change and that delays can happen.
Our Ride Cancellation & Waiting Fee Policy explains when a rider may cancel a trip, when a cancellation or no-show fee may apply, and when a driver may charge a waiting fee after arriving at the pickup location.
The purpose of this policy is to create a fair and transparent system that protects both riders and drivers.
Drivers spend time and fuel travelling to pickup locations. Riders, on the other hand, should not be charged unfairly when a cancellation is caused by circumstances outside their reasonable control.
2. Scope
This policy applies to rides requested through the 3rip platform, subject to the applicable service, fare tier, location and trip conditions.
Different 3rip services or fare tiers may have different:
- Cancellation fees.
- Waiting grace periods.
- Waiting rates.
- Cancellation windows.
- No-show rules.
- Other applicable charges.
The applicable charge shown in the 3rip app or displayed before a rider confirms a trip will generally apply.
3. Key Definitions
3.1 Cancellation
A cancellation occurs when a rider or driver ends an accepted ride request before the trip is completed.
3.2 Pickup Location
The pickup location is the location selected by the rider when requesting the ride.
3.3 Driver Arrival
A driver is considered to have arrived when the driver reaches the pickup location or a reasonably accessible location close to the requested pickup point.
3.4 Waiting Time
Waiting time is the period during which a driver has arrived at or near the pickup location and is waiting for the rider to begin the trip.
3.5 Waiting Grace Period
The waiting grace period is the initial period during which the rider is not charged a waiting fee after the driver arrives.
3.6 No-Show
A no-show occurs when the driver has arrived at the pickup location, the applicable waiting period has passed, and the rider does not reasonably appear or respond.
4. Current Standard Cancellation & Waiting Charges
For the 3rip Abuja FCT Standard service, the current standard policy is:
Waiting Grace Period 5 minutes
Waiting Fee After Grace Period ₦50 per minute
Standard Cancellation No-Show Fee ₦500
These amounts may be updated from time to time.
The applicable amount for a particular ride will be determined by the fare configuration applicable to that ride and, where applicable, displayed to the rider.
5. Rider Cancellation
A rider may cancel a ride through the 3rip platform before the trip begins.
Depending on when the cancellation occurs, a cancellation fee may apply.
Generally:
Cancellation before a driver has been dispatched or within an applicable free-cancellation period:
No cancellation fee may apply.
Cancellation after a driver has accepted or substantially progressed toward the pickup:
A cancellation fee may apply where permitted by the applicable fare rules.
Cancellation after the driver has arrived:
A cancellation or no-show fee may apply, particularly where the driver has waited beyond the applicable grace period.
The exact cancellation conditions may vary depending on the service and circumstances of the ride.
6. Free Cancellation
3rip may allow riders to cancel a ride without a cancellation fee in certain circumstances.
Examples may include:
- Cancelling before a driver is assigned.
- Cancelling within the applicable free-cancellation period.
- Cancelling because a driver has not reasonably progressed toward the pickup location.
- Cancelling because of certain verified platform or driver issues.
- Other circumstances expressly identified by 3rip.
The applicable free-cancellation period, where one applies, may be displayed in the app.
7. Cancellation Fee
A cancellation fee may apply where a rider cancels after a driver has reasonably committed time, distance or resources to the trip.
The purpose of the cancellation fee is not to penalise riders unnecessarily.
It is intended to help compensate drivers for:
- Time spent travelling toward the pickup.
- Fuel or vehicle operating costs.
- Lost opportunity to accept another trip.
- Time spent waiting at the pickup location.
For the current Abuja FCT Standard service, the standard cancellation/no-show fee is ₦500, subject to the applicable trip rules.
8. Driver Cancellation
Drivers should accept trips only when they reasonably intend and are able to complete them.
Drivers should not cancel a ride for discriminatory, fraudulent or otherwise prohibited reasons.
A driver may reasonably cancel a trip where:
- The rider cannot be safely located.
- The pickup location is inaccessible.
- The rider is not present after the applicable waiting period.
- The vehicle cannot safely complete the trip.
- The rider's behaviour creates a serious safety concern.
- The destination or circumstances create a legitimate safety or legal concern.
- An emergency prevents the driver from completing the trip.
- The trip appears fraudulent or otherwise violates 3rip policies.
Drivers must not falsely report a rider as a no-show in order to obtain a cancellation fee.
9. Driver Cancellation Misuse
3rip may review driver cancellations where there is a pattern suggesting misuse.
Prohibited behaviour may include:
- Accepting rides without intending to complete them.
- Repeatedly cancelling to manipulate trip activity.
- Asking riders to cancel so the driver can avoid platform rules.
- Cancelling for discriminatory reasons.
- Falsely claiming to have arrived.
- Falsely reporting a rider as a no-show.
- Manipulating GPS or location information.
- Intentionally delaying a trip to encourage the rider to cancel.
Repeated or serious misuse may result in account review or enforcement under applicable 3rip policies.
10. Driver Arrival and Waiting Time
Once a driver arrives at or near the pickup location, the waiting period may begin.
The driver should make a reasonable effort to:
- Park or stop safely.
- Follow applicable traffic and parking rules.
- Remain reasonably close to the pickup location.
- Contact or notify the rider through the available 3rip communication tools where appropriate.
- Give the rider a reasonable opportunity to locate the vehicle.
Drivers should not intentionally position themselves far away from the pickup point in order to increase waiting time.
11. Five-Minute Waiting Grace Period
For the current Abuja FCT Standard service, riders receive a:
5-minute waiting grace period
No waiting fee is charged during this grace period.
The grace period begins after the driver has arrived at or near the appropriate pickup location, subject to the platform's location and trip-recording systems.
12. Waiting Fee After the Grace Period
Once the 5-minute grace period has expired, a waiting fee may begin to apply.
For the current Abuja FCT Standard service:
Waiting Fee: ₦20 per minute
The applicable waiting fee may continue for the additional time the driver reasonably waits for the rider, subject to applicable platform limits and trip conditions.
The rider may be shown information about waiting time and applicable charges through the 3rip platform where the relevant feature is available.
13. Example of Waiting Fee
For illustration:
If a driver arrives at the pickup location and waits:
- 3 minutes: No waiting fee.
- 5 minutes: No waiting fee.
- 7 minutes: 2 minutes beyond the grace period → ₦40 waiting fee.
- 10 minutes: 5 minutes beyond the grace period → ₦100 waiting fee.
- 15 minutes: 10 minutes beyond the grace period → ₦200 waiting fee.
These examples are illustrative and do not override the actual amount displayed or calculated by the 3rip platform.
14. No-Show
A rider may be classified as a no-show where:
- 1The driver has arrived at or near the designated pickup location;
- 2The applicable waiting period has passed;
- 3The driver has made a reasonable effort to locate or contact the rider; and
- 4The rider does not reasonably appear or respond.
Where the applicable requirements are met, the ride may be cancelled as a no-show and the applicable cancellation/no-show fee may be charged.
For the current Abuja FCT Standard service, the standard no-show fee is ₦500.
15. Driver Must Not Leave Too Early
A driver should not cancel a trip as a no-show immediately after arriving.
Drivers are expected to provide the rider with the applicable grace period and any additional waiting period required by the platform before a no-show cancellation can be completed.
Leaving early without reasonable justification may result in the cancellation being reviewed.
16. Rider Is Unable to Locate the Driver
A rider should not be charged a cancellation or no-show fee where the driver has not reasonably reached the designated pickup location or where the driver cannot reasonably be located due to the driver's actions.
Examples may include:
- Driver stopped at the wrong location.
- Driver moved significantly away from the pickup point.
- Driver provided materially incorrect location information.
- Driver refused to come to an accessible pickup point without reasonable justification.
- Driver falsely marked themselves as arrived.
Riders should contact the driver through the platform where possible and report the issue if necessary.
17. Incorrect Pickup Location
Riders are responsible for providing an accurate pickup location.
If a rider selects the wrong pickup location, the rider should update the location through the platform where the feature is available or communicate the correction to the driver.
If the driver has already travelled to the original pickup location, cancellation or waiting charges may apply depending on the circumstances.
3rip may review disputed charges where the circumstances justify a review.
18. Difficult or Inaccessible Pickup Locations
Some pickup locations may be difficult to access because of:
- Road closures.
- Traffic restrictions.
- Security restrictions.
- Private-property access rules.
- Construction.
- Weather.
- Road conditions.
- Unsafe stopping conditions.
- Other circumstances outside the reasonable control of the driver.
Drivers should select the safest reasonable pickup point and communicate with the rider where possible.
A rider should not be charged unfairly where the driver cannot reasonably reach the pickup point because of circumstances outside the rider's control.
19. Safety-Related Cancellation
Safety comes before completing a trip.
A rider or driver may cancel a ride where continuing the trip would create a genuine safety concern.
Examples may include:
- Threatening behaviour.
- Violence or attempted violence.
- Dangerous road conditions.
- Vehicle safety problems.
- Serious medical emergencies.
- Suspected criminal activity.
- Other circumstances creating a serious and reasonable safety concern.
Where a cancellation is safety-related, 3rip may review the applicable fee upon receiving a report.
20. Emergency Circumstances
3rip recognises that genuine emergencies can occur.
Examples may include:
- Medical emergencies.
- Accidents.
- Sudden road closures.
- Security incidents.
- Natural or environmental hazards.
- Major transport disruptions.
- Other events beyond the reasonable control of the rider or driver.
Where appropriate, 3rip may waive or reverse a cancellation or waiting charge after reviewing the circumstances.
21. Disputed Cancellation or Waiting Charges
If you believe a cancellation or waiting fee was charged incorrectly, you may contact 3rip for a review.
A review may consider:
- Trip records.
- GPS/location information.
- Driver arrival information.
- Cancellation time.
- Waiting duration.
- Rider-driver communications available through the platform.
- Other relevant information.
3rip may adjust or reverse a charge where the available evidence indicates that the charge was incorrectly applied.
22. How to Request a Review
When contacting 3rip, provide:
- Your registered account information.
- Trip details.
- Date and approximate time.
- The charge you are disputing.
- Reason for the dispute.
- Supporting information, where available.
Cancellation and waiting-fee support:
info@3rip.org
Where an in-app support feature is available, riders and drivers should use the applicable support option for faster trip-specific review.
23. No Abuse of the Cancellation System
Users must not intentionally manipulate cancellation or waiting rules.
Prohibited conduct includes:
- Repeatedly booking and cancelling rides to disrupt the platform.
- Intentionally giving false pickup information.
- Asking drivers to falsely report a no-show.
- Asking riders to cancel for the purpose of avoiding applicable platform rules.
- Manipulating location information.
- Creating fake trips.
- Coordinating cancellations to obtain financial benefits.
- Repeatedly exploiting cancellation promotions.
Such conduct may result in account restrictions under the 3rip Community Guidelines, Zero Tolerance Policy or Terms of Service.
24. Promotions and Special Offers
Promotional rides may have cancellation and waiting rules that differ from standard rides.
Where special cancellation terms apply, those terms will be displayed with the relevant promotion.
Promotions may include:
- Free cancellation periods.
- Different cancellation fees.
- Special waiting conditions.
- Minimum-trip requirements.
- Other eligibility conditions.
Where there is a conflict between a specific promotion's terms and this general policy, the specific promotion terms may apply to that promotion.
25. Different Ride Categories
3rip may operate different ride categories, including Standard, Comfort, XL/SUV/Van, Executive or other categories introduced in the future.
Cancellation and waiting fees may vary by:
- Ride category.
- Service area.
- Fare tier.
- Time of day.
- Promotional offer.
- Operational conditions.
The applicable charges for a ride should be checked through the 3rip platform before or during the booking process where the feature is available.
26. Surge and Dynamic Pricing
Where 3rip uses surge or dynamic pricing, a cancellation or waiting fee does not necessarily remove the underlying fare conditions applicable to the trip.
Any cancellation fee or waiting fee will be calculated according to the applicable fare rules.
Where required, the applicable charges will be presented to the rider through the platform.
27. Payment of Cancellation and Waiting Fees
Applicable cancellation or waiting fees may be charged using the payment method associated with the rider's account.
Depending on the payment method and platform configuration, charges may be:
- Deducted from an available account balance.
- Charged to the selected payment method.
- Included in the applicable trip transaction.
- Collected through another supported payment method.
Cash-payment arrangements may be subject to the specific payment and trip rules applicable to the ride.
28. Fees Are Not Driver Tips
Cancellation and waiting fees are not automatically tips or gratuities.
Where a waiting or cancellation fee is charged, the amount will be handled according to 3rip's applicable fare and driver-partner payment arrangements.
Any applicable 3rip commission, government charge, payment processing cost or other deduction will be handled according to the applicable commercial arrangements.
29. Changes to Cancellation and Waiting Fees
3rip may change cancellation fees, waiting periods or waiting rates from time to time.
Changes may be made because of:
- Fuel and operating costs.
- Market conditions.
- Driver economics.
- Rider demand.
- Regulatory requirements.
- Changes to 3rip services.
- Operational requirements.
The applicable fee displayed for a particular trip or fare tier will generally govern that trip.
30. Transparency
3rip aims to provide riders and drivers with clear information about applicable cancellation and waiting charges.
Where technically available, the platform may display:
- Driver arrival status.
- Waiting time.
- Applicable waiting charges.
- Cancellation fees.
- Trip status.
- Other relevant fare information.
Technology limitations, GPS inaccuracies or network conditions may occasionally affect the accuracy of automated information. Disputed charges may be reviewed using available trip records.
31. Driver Responsibilities
Drivers participating on 3rip are expected to:
- Arrive at the correct pickup location.
- Use the platform's location and trip functions accurately.
- Wait for the applicable grace period.
- Make reasonable efforts to contact the rider.
- Avoid false no-show reports.
- Avoid deliberately increasing waiting time.
- Cancel trips honestly and for legitimate reasons.
- Treat riders respectfully.
Repeated misuse of waiting or cancellation fees may result in driver account review or enforcement.
32. Rider Responsibilities
Riders are expected to:
- Enter an accurate pickup location.
- Monitor their trip status.
- Be reasonably ready when the driver arrives.
- Respond to reasonable driver communication.
- Avoid unnecessary cancellations.
- Cancel promptly if they no longer require the ride.
- Avoid asking drivers to manipulate cancellation or waiting rules.
Being ready for pickup helps reduce driver waiting time and keeps the 3rip network moving efficiently.
